What Does Ringing in the Ears Mean Spiritually?

If you’ve ever experienced a ringing in the ears sensation, you know how surprising it can be. Is it just you, or can others hear the noise, too? What does ringing in the ears mean spiritually?

If you’ve done even the slightest bit of research online, you’ll find hundreds of websites and blogs dedicated to the spiritual meaning of ringing in the ears.

What does ringing in the ears mean?

There are numerous different meanings for ringing in the ears from a spiritual point of view. Many of these theories overlap with each other but none have any real basis in science.

Some have believed ringing in the ears means a “spiritual awakening” as if it is a sign of spiritual interference. A typical theory online is that the individual is receiving “downloads” which means the individual is receiving high frequencies of information from higher realms. Some believe that high frequencies means it is a positive message, where lower frequencies are seen as negative energy instead.

Some also associate high frequencies with other people. If you hear these high frequencies and at a very high pitch, someone may be talking or thinking something very positive about you. Or some believe that it is the higher consciousness trying to communicate to you.

There are also theories that ringing in the left ear versus the right ears come with different meanings. High-pitched ringing in the right ear is associated with exciting news and is usually seen as a signal that a desirable outcome is coming our way. Perhaps you’ll get a new job offer you’ve been hoping for, or you’ll complete a difficult project.

On the flip side, it’s believe that low-pitched ringing in the left ear signifies a warning sign and the individual should tread carefully. This warning sign could mean that something in your life will be unsuccessful, such as a relationship, job or project. If you experience this type of ringing, many believe that you should take stock of your current life and those around you.

There is some information online that if the noise is too much, you can simply ask “your Higher Self” to tone it down. It’s as simple as that, the ringing in your ears is solved!

While it sounds like a great idea, this explanation is not based in science. If you experience ringing in your ears, it’s more likely a medical condition called tinnitus. Tinnitus causes range from a variety of things, but all of them are based in science.

Everyone has the right to believe what they want to, whether there is scientific evidence to back up their claims or not. However, there are few sites that could be harmful to those looking for answers to their ringing ears. Some websites have stated that individuals who are sensitive to energy can experience a loud ringing noise or buzzing sensation in their ears (also known as “white noise”). They claim that this condition has no direct link to the physical body or credible medical explanation. However, this is untrue.

It goes on to explain that because there is no medical explanation, it’s believed this internal sound is due to a spiritual awakening and becoming tuned into the divine sound of the universe.

If you are suffering from this uncomfortable and distracting condition, it’s important to know that it is rooted in science and there is a medical explanation. More likely than not, you are experiencing tinnitus and there are ways to help reduce it.

What is tinnitus?

Tinnitus is hearing a noise with no external cause. It can sound like a buzzing sound, a ringing noise, or even a humming sound. It varies from person-to-person and can even change to a higher pitch or the individual may experience higher frequency noises over time. Some sufferers describe their tinnitus sound simple as “white noise” while others experience a certain high pitched frequency humming noise. Some people only experience tinnitus in their left ear, right ear, or both ears together. This particular condition is very specific to the individual and their specific case.

Tinnitus can come in various forms and have numerous causes. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of research on tinnitus and there isn’t one type of treatment that works for everyone. Currently, there is no cure for tinnitus.

As you can imagine, constantly hearing ringing sounds can become incredibly debilitating. There have been numerous supplements on the market for tinnitus, such as Quiet Mind Plus, Ring Zen and Tinnitus 911. However, many of these have produced less than desirable results, leaving sufferers even more frustrated.

It’s understandable why people would turn to a spiritual realm for answers for a condition with so few answers in science. With continued research, we can hope that a cure will be discovered for tinnitus.

Is it spiritual or medical?

Ringing in the ears can be seen as spiritual by some and as a medical condition by others. It really depends on the person themselves.

Some people online have chosen to go with a spiritual answer, such as Sarah who wrote, “When the ringing first happened, I did go to a Western doctor who said I probably contracted a virus that gave me “long-term, incurable tinnitus”, his exact words. However, I always knew deep down that somehow the ringing had to do with the spiritual path that I was on and received it as a message that I was moving in the right direction in my life.”

Others view this frustrating sensation as tinnitus, like Brenda: ” I have suffered from this and don’t feel any closer to having a spiritual awakening than I did before it started. I have been to several doctors and each one says “sorry, there’s nothing we can do” … It’s downright frustrating, annoying and debilitating at times, but spiritual? Not for me. Not even a little.”

How to reduce the ringing in your ears

There is no one way to reduce tinnitus symptoms, but there are various techniques that can be used.

Because there are so many different reasons to develop tinnitus, it’s best to speak with your doctor before trying to treat tinnitus symptoms. Some find relief in painkillers, anti-inflammatories, physiotherapy, chiropractors, meditation and/or anti-depression medication. Many tinnitus sufferers find relief through hearing aids, noise therapy and/or stress management.
